Sam Schwartz was retained by Jacobs/CH2M HILL (CH2M) to provide consulting services to support the MTA New Fare Payment Systems project. CH2M was selected as the prime consultant to work with MTA New York City Transit, MTA Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad in the design, procurement and implementation of its next-generation fare collection system. This system will introduce new payment options for customers, including contactless smartcards, open payments, and various mobile payment options. The new system will replace the aging MetroCard system, and will support regional interoperability.
