LADOT Taxicab and Private Transportation Vehicle Regulatory Approaches

taxi cab on Los Angeles street

Sam Schwartz is leading a multi-faceted team that will bring LADOT’s taxi and private transportation vehicle regulation framework into alignment with the current and evolving transportation landscape, including new mobility, Mobility as a Service (MaaS), and other emerging technologies. This project provides a needed update to the outdated franchise systems and is a tactical step forward in achieving the goals set in the LADOT Strategic Implementation Plan and Urban Mobility in a Digital Age. The study also includes guidance on a Universal Booking System and creation of the Mobility Data Specifications (MDS) for the taxi fleet, which will be the second mode of transportation in LA to adopt MDS after private micromobility.
