Stephanie Shaw joins Sam Schwartz as Principal + West Coast General Manager

Sam Schwartz is pleased to announce that Stephanie Shaw has joined the firm as a Principal and West Coast General Manager.

Stephanie brings to the firm extensive transportation and public space leadership experience. As Executive Director of the NYC DOT Office of Street Improvement Programs, she was responsible for $30M+ operational budgets, state and federal grants, and day-to-day operations of the Bicycle, Pedestrian, Public Space, Street Furniture, and Policy and Innovation Units, as well as the ambitious Street Improvement Program, which implements over 100 safety projects annually. New initiatives developed under Stephanie’s leadership included the Open Streets program, the GreenWave cycling initiative, and a nascent Secure Bike Parking program. In a prior stint at DOT, she helped create, launch, and oversee New York City’s bike sharing program, Citi Bike. In between her tenures at DOT, she worked on Governors Island, helping to shepherd the construction and design of the final phase of the park’s construction.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Sam Schwartz’s extraordinary group of planners and engineers,” said Stephanie. “This is a pivotal moment for the built environment, and this team is at the forefront of designing a safer, more equitable, and climate-resilient future.”

“Stephanie has a stellar track record of making cities work better for people,” said Michael A. Shamma, PE, President and CEO of Sam Schwartz. “I look forward to her collaborating with our team to do just that for our clients across the West Coast.”
