SSE assisted Weisz & Yoes Architects on the Fordham Plaza Conceptual Design project, providing transportation engineering and transit planning services. SSE analyzed the Plaza for transit operations and pedestrian safety concerns. To better integrate the many transportation options available at the Plaza, SSE proposed various transit alternatives that considered alternative bus routes, relocation of bus layover areas, redesign of curb spaces at bus stops, and the integration of bus space with the Plaza for a contiguous plaza experience for pedestrians. Critical intersections with heavy pedestrian and vehicular volumes were analyzed using Highway Capacity Software for various alternatives. SSE also sought the input of the local Community Board to incorporate the needs and the ideas of area stakeholders in the design.
